With little less than a week than the opening of the district tournament the Cougars squared off against one of the top teams in state as they wrapped up the regular season. After two halves the Cougars saw what it will take to be a top varsity team as the Bowling Green Purples pounded the Cougars 10-0.

“We just got beat by a better team,” LCHS head coach Eric Evans said. “They’ve mercied just about everybody in our district.”

The game went the Purples way the entire match and the Cougars bowed out of their first regular season in varsity play with a 5-11 record.

The Cougars averaged a little over three goals a game with their peak output being a 10-0 victory over Hart County early in the season. But it’s defenses that win championships and the Cougars have been hit or miss on defense. The defense has allowed on average almost five goals this season.

They will try and shore up that defense when the district tournament starts next week. The seeding has yet to be determined. The district in soccer consists of Logan County, Muhlenburg County, Warren Central, Bowling Green, Franklin-Simpson, South Warren and Butler County. More than likely the Cougars will draw either South Warren or Warren Central in their first round game.

The Spartans are 7-9 at the moment with games against Daviess County coming up and the Dragons are 14-6 and in second place in the region.
