Last week, a brand-new shiny red fire truck rolled into the city of Russellville and found its home in a bay located on Fifth Street.

The $199,820 Pierce Freightliner truck has already been given a nickname. She will be referred to as Number 9, since she has eight sibling trucks, the oldest dating back to 1973.

The Russellville Fire Department hasn't gotten a new truck since 1999, and those at the department are as excited as new mothers.

"This truck is one of a kind," said an elated Fire Chief J.L. Williamson, who has seen most of the department's trucks as they arrived in town.

"We are very happy to have been able to purchase this needed truck, and we think she will do a great job for the citizens of Russellville," Williamson said, smiling.

The truck holds 1,000 gallons of water at all times and pumps 1,250 gallons per minute. There is also a 40-gallon foam cell attached to fight specific flames and numerous compartments, which will be utilized for storage.

There is a generator hidden within the truck, and all-new hoses, attachments and a ladder were included as well. U.S. Bank is holding the three-year loan that the city took out to purchase the truck.
