When her finals are complete, she will depart for China as one of 10 students of the UK College of Agriculture for an international studies trip for seventeen days.
Hanks traveled to France last May and is very much looking forward to her trip to China and learning the culture there. In addition to preparing for this overseas trip, she has had an extremely busy year at UK.
She was recently chosen as the head counselor for IFAL (Institute of Future Agriculture Leaders), which is a week-long program held at UK for rising high school seniors across the state. Hanks first participated in this program as an LCHS student, followed by serving as a counselor last summer and is now student director of this year's program.
She is also excited to continue into her second year as a UK College of Agriculture Ambassador and has been elected as the UK Agribusiness Club vice-president internal for the upcoming school year.
Another organization that Hanks is very active in is the College of Agriculture Student Council, in which she has served terms as freshman, sophomore and soon-to-be junior representative. She is also a member of the UK Entrepreneur's Club and UK FFA Alumni.
Hanks also volunteers weekly at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Lexington as the volunteer Event Coordinator for the hospital.
She is also a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and currently serves as sisterhood coordinator.
Hanks, 19, is the daughter of Charles Kelley and Jana Hanks, as well as the older sister of Keeton, all of Auburn. She is studying Public Service and Leadership and Agricultural Economics at the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture.
