He was born March 4, 1911 in Missouri, the son of the late Joshua and Josie Redd Griggs. Mr. Griggs was a farmer and a member of the Elkton Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Griggs in 2001; two sons, Charles "Woody" Griggs in 1977 and Melvin Griggs Jr. in 1997; one daughter, Leona Griggs, in 1937.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 14 at Latham Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Cardwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.
He is survived by one son, Terry Griggs of Elkton; one daughter, Helen Williams of Hopkinsville; 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
