The Logan County Farm Bureau Federation recently held their summer picnic at the Schochoh Community Center. Several elected officials and a staff representative were in attendance. This annual event gives Farm Bureau an opportunity to express their appreciation to those who hold office for the work they do on behalf of farmers.

The elected officials spoke on various governmental subjects that were of interest and concern to those present. The new deceased farm animal disposal program was discussed at length. The plan is for farmers to pay $40. per animal to be disposed of. Griffin industries will no longer pick up dead livestock due to an FDA ruling in 2009 prohibiting material from cattle over 30 months of age from being used in any livestock feed unless the brain and spinal cord are removed. This ruling was made to help prevent the spread of Mad Cow Disease. Griffin Industries will still take cattle under 30 months of age if the age of the animal can be documented.

The picnic was pot luck with pork chops grilled by Bradley Brown, Jonathon Brown and Trent Martin.

Following the meal Pres. Frances Brown conducted the regular Farm Bureau Business meeting. Preliminary plans were made for the annual meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Sept. 10, 2011 to be at the Extension Office. Farm Bureau Day at the State Fair is August 25, 2011.
