She was born in Bowling Green Feb. 16, 1916, a daughter of the late Charlie Virgil Dixon and the late Ada Estelle Smith Dixon. In addition to her parent, Mrs. Matlock was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Matlock; her brother William “Bill” Dixon; her sisters, Lucille Carr and Gladys Colen; her sons, J.W. Matlock Jr., Charles Richard Matlock and James Robert “Bobby” Matlock.
Mrs. Matlock has been a member of New Friendship Baptist Church in Auburn for over 60 years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 24 at Young Funeral Home Auburn Chapel with Brother Tom Lawhon and Brother Barry Raley officiating. Burial followed in the New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Phillip Matlock, Russell Matlock, William Lee Matlock, Keith Matlock, Charles Hughes, Danny Hughes, William Jeffery Matlock and Sammy White.
She is survived by her son, William “Bill” Matlock of Auburn; her daughters, Karen Marie Matlock of Auburn and Barbara M. Scheidt and husband Leonard of Bowling Green; her sister-in-law, Earlene Dixon of Bowling Green; her brother-in-law, Robert Colen of San Francisco, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 21 grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to be made to the New Friendship Baptist Church Youth Fund.
