The Bowling Green Purples seemed to be the only team that could contain the Cougars in 2016. The Purples beat Logan County 15-0 in a game at Bowling Green High School last season. The Purples were responsible for the end of Logan’s season also. They beat them in the regional tournament at WKU and went on to win the region. Now, it is a new year with new results. The Purples came to Logan County on Thursday in an anticipated rematch between the two top powerhouse teams of region 4. The Cougars controlled the game and sent the Purples back home with a 6-0 loss.

The Cougars (4-0) struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Jack Campbell hit a single up the middle for the first hit of the game. Bowling Green pitcher Logan Bowen then surrendered a walk to Kaleb Justice. Justice would eventually come around to score the first run of the game.

In the top of the third, the Purples tried to get something going against Ethan Smock. After Bowling Green’s first single, Smock hit a batter with one out. Catcher Jack Campbell threw out a runner trying to steal third, and Smock got the third out with a strikeout.

Bowling Green would get another single in the top of the fourth, but that was as close as they got to the Cougars in this one. Logan County pitching held the mighty Purples to only two hits in the game.

The Cougars had seven hits. Jack Campbell was responsible for three of those. Austin Rayno hit two singles. Third Bell smashed a double and had three RBIs. Koby Wall also got on base with a hit.

Ethan Smock went six innings for the shutout win. He struck out seven, allowed two hits, and only walked one. Nick Wooden came on in relief and fanned two Purples in one inning of work.

The Cougars will be at Russellville on Tuesday for the first Clash of the Cats of 2017.
