The district tournament for the 2016-2017 season belongs to Franklin-Simpson. The Wildcats hosted the tournament this year in Franklin. Both the boys and girls won the championship. Both teams played Russellville in the final game.

The Panthers could not stop Franklin-Simpson superstar Tavin Lovan. The big Senior scored 49 points against the Panthers in the championship. The final score was 84-61.

Russellville held the Wildcats in check during the first quarter. Franklin pulled ahead by one point at the end of the 1st. Russellville fell into a deep hole during the second quarter. Out of the locker room after the break, the Cats added six quick points from Lovan and never looked back.

Pedro Bradshaw led the Panthers with 17. Shon Kees had 13. Jaylyn McMurry scored 12 in the district championship.

The Panthers (20-11) made it to the 13th district championship by defeating Todd County in the opening round.

Russellville will move on to the Region 4 tournament being held at WKU’s Diddle Arena. The Panthers got the best draw possible in the tournament. They will not face favorites Bowling Green or powerhouse Franklin-Simpson unless they make it to the championship. The Purples and Wildcats are in the opposite bracket. The Panthers play Monroe County (17-12) on Wednesday. The game starts at 6pm.
