The Fourth Region volleyball tournament is under way and Logan County High School will likely be facing arch-rival Greenwood in the semifinals on Wednesday.
The Lady Cougars won yet another District 13 championship last week and over the weekend drew 16th District runner-up Clinton County in the first round. That match was scheduled to be played Monday night at tournament host Cumberland County.
Greenwood, the runners-up in District 14, also played Monday night, taking on District 15 champion Monroe County.
Logan County is 27-9 on the year and has won 11 of 16 matches against Fourth Region competition. No region team outside of District 14 has beaten the Lady Cougars this year. Logan County fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) against Greenwood earlier this season in Bowling Green.
But the Lady Cougars do have a 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 25-16) victory this season over South Warren, who knocked off Greenwood in last week’s District 14 tournament.
Logan County also has momentum on its side, as the Lady Cougars have won 15 of their final 16 matches – the lone loss coming against South Warren in the return match from earlier in the year.
The other Fourth Region first round matches pit District 16 champion Russell County taking on Allen County-Scottsville and South Warren playing Todd County Central on Tuesday.
Both semifinal matches are scheduled for Wednesday night at Cumberland County. The championship match is set for Thursday.
