WKU football breaks attendance record in loss

Anthony Wales (20) was WKU’s leading rusher in the loss to Vandy. The Senior from Louisville has 254 yards on the ground so far in 2016. He also has four touchdowns.

On Saturday, the Western Kentucky Hilltopper football team hosted an SEC team for the first time ever at Houchens-Smith Stadium. The Tops were the favorites by about a touchdown. WKU also broke an attendance record on Saturday with 23,674. WKU seemed to be on track for a win, but Vanderbilt shocked the Hilltoppers 31-30 in overtime. The game came down to a failed two-point conversion try by quarterback Mike White. The pass was tipped into the air at the line securing the Vandy win on a day when WKU led most of the game.

WKU had 496 total yards in the game. Running back Anthony Wales ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Taywan Taylor led all receivers with 112 yards. Quarterback Mike White threw for 222 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Ferguson came into the game to throw two passes. He completed both, including a 61 yard touchdown throw to Nacarius Fant.

WKU will host Houston Baptist on Saturday, October 1st. The Huskies are (2-2.)
