Logan County High School senior Taleia Mason signed on Friday to play basketball and run track at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro.
This is the first basketball signing for LCHS coach Finley Baird and she said on Friday that she was glad Mason was the first of her students to go on to play college basketball.
During the past season, Mason averaged 9.2 points per game while leading the team from the point guard position and filling the role as defensive stopper.
“I always put her on the opposing team’s best player,” Baird said.
Mason shot 32 percent from the field and grabbed 2.4 rebounds per game.
The Lady Cougars won 22 games this past season and advanced to the semifinals of the Fourth Region Tournament after winning the District 13 championship for the third straight season.
Kentucky Wesleyan went 15-9 in women’s basketball this past season.
Mason will also be running track for KWC.
Track coach and athletic director Greg Howard praised Mason for her performances this past year.
“I only wish I could have got her out there sooner,” he said. “I will miss having her at practice.”
