Panthers winning streak ends at 4

The Russellville Panthers put together the longest winning streak of the season last week at four games, but fell 13-5 at home Saturday against Trigg County.

The Panthers (7-13) played at Fort Campbell on Thursday. The (2-17) Falcons counldn’t fly away from the Panther offense. RHS won 13-7.

Colby Nichols had a monster game. Nichols went 2 for 4 with a double and a grand slam home run. He had six RBIs in the game. The grand slam came when the Panthers needed it most. The Falcons were winning 6-3 before the slam.

George Ortiz had two hits, including a double.

TK Hampton started for the Panthers, but only lasted one inning. He allowed five runs on three hits. Jesus Zamarripa came in the throw the remaining six innings. Zamarripa gave up two runs on five hits, walking three and striking out two.

Russellville returned home for a Friday game against the Greenwood Gators. The Panthers won 5-4.

Brock Cleary went 3 for 4 at the plate. George Ortiz and Rooster Woodard each hit singles.

The Panthers struck first against the (8-18) Gators. George Ortiz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third. Jordan Blick walked in for the first run of the game. Woodard then hit an RBI single to score TK Hampton. Colby Nichols scored on a ground hit by Jesus Zamarripa to make it 3-0.

Greenwood got one in the top of the fourth, but Russellville also added another in the bottom of the inning on a Brock Cleary single. The Panthers would carry that 4-1 lead into the top of the sixth. The Gators made it 4-2 on a fielding error. The game got interesting in the top of the seventh. Greenwood got two runs to tie it up at four runs a piece.

Brock Cleary led off the bottom of the last inning with a double. He would eventually score the winning run on a single hit by Ortiz.

On Saturday, Russellville snapped the four-game winning streak with a 13-5 loss at home against the (12-15) Trigg County Wildcats. TK Hampton had a single, double, and triple in the losing effort. Hampton also drove in four runs. Jordan Blick and Brock Cleary each had two hits. Blick hit a home run.

Blick, Hampton, and Dillon Porter each pitched for the Panthers. Blick gave up nine runs on 11 hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Russellville will host the (9-12) Allen County-Scottsville Patriots on Tuesday
