The brackets have been set for next week’s District 13 Tournaments and on the boys’ side there will be a “Clash of the Cats” in the first round as Russellville will square off once again with Logan County.
Russellville and Franklin-Simpson tied for the top seed in the district tournament after splitting regular season games against each other and then sweeping both Todd Central and Logan County.
A coin flip was held on Wednesday to decide which team would get the top overall seed and Franklin-Simpson won, meaning the Wildcats take on Todd Central in the 1-4 matchup.
The tournament will be held at Russellville High Schools’ Jim Young Gymnasium this year. Monday’s first round games will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a girls matchup of top-seeded Logan County and Todd Central. In the regular season, the Lady Cougars beat Todd Central twice – 60-44 early in the year at Elkton and 36-32 last month at LCHS.
The second game on Monday will feature the top-seeded boys’ team, Franklin-Simpson, taking on Todd Central immediately following the girls game.
Tuesday night will tip off again at 6:30 p.m. with the Franklin-Simpson girls taking on the host Russellville Lady Panthers. Franklin-Simpson won both regular season matchups. On Jan. 15, Russellville lost a home game to Franklin-Simpson 54-47 and then fell 39-32 on Feb. 2 in Franklin.
The final first round game will be the “Clash” rematch between the Russellville and Logan County boys. The Panthers beat Logan County 59-47 on the road in January and then came back earlier this month to beat the Cougars 77-70 at home.
The girls’ championship game is scheduled to be played on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. The boys’ championship game will be Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
Admission to all tournament games will be $6 each night. The district champion and runner-up will each advance to the Fourth Region Tournament, which will once again be held at Western Kentucky University’s E.A. Diddle Arena.
