Wharton, Morris qualify for state swim meet

After swimming last weekend in the regional meet, two Logan County High School athletes have secured a spot in this weekend’s state championships, which will be held next weekend at the University of Louisville.

The two athletes who qualified for the state meet are sophomore Riley Wharton and eighth grader Lilly Morris, who is a student at Olmstead.

Wharton will be competing in the 100 breaststroke and Morris will be swimming in the 100 backstroke.

“The Logan County High School has had an excellent season this year,” said coach Rachelle Wharton. “For the first time in school history, we have athletes that have qualified for state competition.”

The KHSAA state championships will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, February 25, 26, and 27 and the University of Louisville, Ralph Wright Natatorium on 2216 South Floyd Street in Louisville.

The schedule for the events the Logan County swimmers will participate in is as follows:

Friday, February 26, 2016

Session 2: Boys’ Swimming Preliminaries

9:00 a.m. Tickets go on sale and gates open

10:00 a.m. Boys’ swimming preliminaries begin

(There will be 5 heats of 8 swimmers in each event)

At the conclusion of Session 2 spectators will be required to vacate the seating area.

Session 3: Girls’ Swimming Preliminaries

2:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale and gates open

3:30 p.m. Girls’ swimming preliminaries begin

(There will be 5 heats of 8 swimmers in each event)

Saturday – February 27, 2016

Session 4: Boys’ Swimming and Diving Finals

9:00 a.m. Tickets go on sale and gates open

10:00 a.m. Boys’ finals in all events

Session 5: Girls’ Swimming and Diving Finals

3:15 p.m. Tickets go on sale and gates open

4:15 p.m. Girls’ finals in all events
