Lady Panthers lose by a one at home.


The Russellville Lady Panthers lost a tough one on Tuesday night, January 19, to Butler County 60-61.

The Lady Panthers came into the game with a 10-3 record and seeking their first win on their home court at Jim Young Gym in six previous attempts.

The Lady Bears came to Russellville with a 7-10 overall record including a loss to the Lady Panthers in Morgantown, 58-53.

Russellville held the lead for most of the game. After one quarter the Lady Panthers led 18-11 and at halftime Russellville had a 28-20 lead.

But the Lady Bears refused to give up. Chipping away at the Russellville lead, the visitors found the lead only three points away midway through the fourth quarter, 44-47.

Then, inside of two minutes to go, the Lady Panthers were up by five points, 58-53, and seemed to have some breathing room.

But over the next minute or so, the Lady Bears outscored the Lady Panthers 7-1. With only seconds to go the Butler County squad trailed by one point, 59-60.

As time expired, the Butler County junior, Chloe Flener, took a shot that gave the Lady Bears the win, 61-60.

In the loss, Deshale Leblanc led the Lady Panthers with 22 points. DeVonya Bryant added 20 points and Loreal Cheaney had 15 points.

Next up for the Russellville team is a Saturday afternoon trip to Albany, KY and a game against the Clinton County Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs are 2-20 overall this season. Tip-off for the Saturday, January 23, game is 3:30pm.
