The Logan County Cougars defeated the Todd County Central Rebels on Friday night 72-52 and made their District 13 record 2-2. The Cougars had beaten the Rebels in Elkton earlier in this year and have two District 13 games upcoming versus Franklin-Simpson and at Russellville.
Both teams started cold, missing their first shots as the game got underway. The Rebels were first to score and they held that 2-0 lead for about a minute and a half; it would be the only lead for the Rebels in the game. Austin Rayno’s 3-pt shot at 5:25 put the Cougars on top 3-2.
Mykal Hampton’s 3-pt basket put the Cougars up 16-8. The first quarter ended with the Rebels still a lap behind, 9-18.
The Cougars continued to build their lead. The fourth quarter started with the Cougars in the lead 58-34. Coach Lonnie Mason played most of his bench in the last quarter. 13 Cougars had playing time in the game. The final score was 72-52.
Lorenzo Garcia led the team in scoring with 19. Hampton and Noah Whittinghill added 14 each.
Next up for the Cougars is a game on Tuesday, January 12, at home versus Allen-County Scottsville. Tip off for the game is 6pm.
