Loreal Cheaney scored 43 points and Davonya Bryant added 13 in the Lady Panthers’ 66-62 victory at Warren East on Monday night. Chaney was 10 of 12 from the all-important free-throw line and the team was 19 of 25 from the stripe.

With their 2-0 record, the Head Coach Calvin Head’s team is third in the Region 4 standings in this young season.

According to records on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association web site (KHSAA.org), it has been a decade since the Lady Panthers of Russellville have opened a season with wins in each their first two games. The 2005-16 season the Lady Panthers beat Fort Campbell and Glasgow by the combined score of 109-99. The Lady Panthers went 10-16 that year and had a 4-4 District 13 record. That season ended with a first-round District 13 tournament loss to Todd County Central.

Next up for the Lady Panthers is a trip to Elkton to face the Todd County Central Lady Rebels (1-2) in the opening game of a girls’/boys’ doubleheader on Friday, December 11. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 6pm.

According to records on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association web site (KHSAA.org), it has been a decade since the Lady Panthers of Russellville have opened a season with wins in each their first two games. In their first two games of 2005-06 season the Lady Panthers beat Fort Campbell and Glasgow by the combined score of 109-99. The Lady Panthers had a 10-16 overall record that year, including a 4-4 District 13 record. That season ended with a first-round District 13 Tournament loss to Todd County Central.

With a victory on Friday night (as many expect), the Lady Panthers will be able to do what the RHS Girls’ Basketball Program has not been able to do for at least the past 20 years. The KHSAA web site has records back to the 1997-98 season; in that time, the Lady Panthers have never won their first three games of the season.
