The Russellville Panthers secured the District title and home playoff games with their 46-21 win over the Crittenden County Rockets on Friday night.
In a very exciting game that was played much closer than the final score would indicate, the Panthers were able to win their third in a row and improve their record to 8-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in their District.
After Friday’s game, the Panthers moved up a notch in the Class 1A standings as well. The Panthers are fourth, behind Paris, Paintsville and Bishop Brossart.
In the win the RHS team tallied nearly 700 yards of offense with Bryson Thomas leading the way with 124 total rushing yards. The Panther defense forced two Rockets turnovers as well.
Next up for the Panthers is a trip to nearby Franklin-Simpson next week. The non-district game will close the regular season for both teams. The following week the Panthers will return to Rhea Stadium after an absence of nearly a month for the opening round game of the 2015 Gridiron Bowl for the State Championship.
