Dan Duncan, Health and PE teacher at Logan County High School and the Head Coach of the Lady Cougars Soccer team is pleased to announce the return of the Girls Soccer team at Logan County Middle School.
2015 will be Coach Duncan’s third year as Head Coach and his ever-expanding resume includes District Championships (in both regular season and Tournament) the past two years.
“Much of our success can be directly contributed to the foundation our current players received as developing players in middle school,” said Coach Duncan, in a recent letter to the middle schools. “The current coaching staff has identified this age group as an area we desperately need to utilize to ensure future sustainability and competitiveness of the high school program.”
For the first time since 2012, Logan County soccer will have an all-girls middle school soccer team. In the past two seasons, the girls who played were part of a coed team with the middle school boys.
“Having an all-girls team will allow the girls to develop their skills against similar competition and experience better results. They will also have a chance to practice alongside the high school team during the week,” Duncan’s letter continued.
Girls attending any of Logan County’s middle schools may participate. As practices will begin on July 15, any interested in playing are encouraged to complete the necessary forms as soon as possible; a physical exam to be completed by a doctor and a parental consent form are required. The forms are available at the high school or can be downloaded from the KHSAA website. If you wish to download one, links for the forms are posted at the end of this article.
Duncan explained in his letter that new LCHS Athletic Director, Greg Howard, plans for one or two days this summer when physicals will be administered at the high school with no appointment needed for only $10. Please watch for announcements of details, or contact the Coaching Staff to be further updated on details.
Practices will begin on July 15. The first week and a half of practice will focus on conditioning. Once school starts, middle school practices will last from 4:30-6:00 (the 4:30 start will allow the school busses to transport the players to the high school). Whether or not practices will be held on Wednesday nights will depend on the number of girls that attend church that evening.
Coach Duncan closes his letter with a warm invitation to all interested. “We would love for you to be a part of the success of the Lady Cougar Soccer Program,” he said.
“Even if you have never played before, but you really want to start, now is the time!” He continued. “We had several girls start last year at the high school level, and they made tremendous strides. They wish they had started sooner so they could have had more to develop.”
