Earlier this week Russellville High School Athletic Director Calvin Head, announced the Gerald Printing Athlete of the Month recipients for September.

Each month a male and female student athlete at Russellville Middle and Russellville High School is singled out for their outstanding play on the field, and their success in the classroom.

Nominees are selected by their coaches, and then voted on by coaches from all fall sports programs in the High School and Middle School. The athletic department then chooses one overall athlete of the month, based on outstanding play and performance in the classroom. These student athletes also model good character and qualities of leadership in and out of the classroom, and on and off the field of competition.

Here are the Gerald Printing Athletes of the month for September 2015:

From Russellville Middle School:

Jonathan Zamarippa and Addie Mosier

Jonathan is one of the more experienced players on a very young team, and gives us a very stable presence in the field. He rarely makes mistakes and always tries his hardest. (Comments from Soccer Coach-Jonathan White)

Addie is a first year cheerleader with great team spirit. Addie is always the first one to pitch in to help in any situation. She shows great leadership and is very respectful. Addie also is outstanding in her academics. She plays softball for the RMS lady Panthers, and cheers, but still has time for grades, family and friends. She is an all around GREAT athlete. (Comments from Cheer Sponsor’s-Leslie Coffman and Beverly York.)

From Russellville High School:

Nelson Suiter and Elly Myers.

Golf Coach Nathan Thompson had this to say of Nelson, “We have a very young and inexperienced team, but Nelson is our lone returning golfer. Nelson has stepped up this year and took on a leadership role. He does a good job working with his younger team members before, during, and after practice, teaching them the game of golf.” Nelson finished the golf season with his best round of the season on Tuesday against Todd County. He shot a 49.

Elly’s cheer sponsors, Kia Santiago and Heather Rickman, spoke highly of her saying, “She has a wonderful attitude, always goes above and beyond what is asked of her, and always encourages her teammates. Elly also performs extremely well in the classroom. Elly exhibits the perfect characteristics of what a student-athlete should be.”

And, chosen by the athletic director, the overall RMS and RHS Athlete of the Month for September 2015 is Halle York.

Athletic Director Calvin Head speaks proudly of Halle saying, “Halle is a three year veteran cheerleader leading a group of extremely young girls this year at RMS. She is the prime example of a leader that they all look up to. Halle is on many teams, (RMS cheer, RMS softball, RHS cheer and two All-Star teams), and still she maintains a 4.0 GPA. She is currently taking two high school classes. She always has a smile and she is a great leader.”
