Babe Ruth League play gets underway

Babe Ruth League Baseball News

Babe Ruth League baseball is underway in Logan County with five teams in competition.

Pratt’s Auto, Subway/Price Funeral Home, Logan Telephone, Logan County Animal Clinic, and H&H Sheet Metal are team sponsors.

Two games were played on May 29.

Logan Telephone 7, Pratt’s Auto 6

In the first game Logan Telephone defeated Pratt’s Auto, 7-6

Bradley Taylor and Jack Wright led the offense for Logan Telephone with a triple and a single each. Wright led the way in RBIs with three. Cole Lewis and Tanner Baldwin added singles. Baldwin scored three times, while Lewis and Taylor scored two runs each.

On the mound for Logan Telephone, Taylor pitched 5 innings giving up 6 runs on 3 hits, 10 strike outs, and 4 walks. Lewis came on in relief, allowing no runs and only one hit and one walk.

John Allen Cherry, Derrick Dorris, Jacob Whitamore, Lane Barry, and Cameron Law also saw action for Logan Telephone.

In the losing effort for Pratt’s Auto, the offense was evenly carried by Ashton Ross, Austin Rayno, Caleb Jenkins, and Devon Roche, who all had singles. McKinley Griggs and Rayno had one RBI each. And the scoring broke down with D.J. Beard getting two runs and Roche, Ross, Rayno, and McKinley Griggs scoring one run each.

On the mound, Roche pitched three innings and gave up one run on three hits; he walked one and struck out three. Beard Pitched two innings giving up six runs on three hits and two walks; he struck out three.

Briar Webb, Colin Sharpe, and Dawson McGhee also played in the game.

Logan County Animal Clinic 3, H&H Sheet Metal 0

In the second game, Logan County Animal Clinic shutout H&H Sheet Metal, 3-0.

Nick Wooden and Evan Humphrey had one each of the only two hits that Logan County Animal Clinic could get off of H & H Sheet Metal pitcher Price Brown.

Brown pitched 4 innings giving up two hits and striking out six; Brown walked five batters and that would prove to be the game changer.

Wooden, Evan Humphrey, and Gram Humphrey scored one run each.

From the winning mound, Wooden pitched three shutout innings, allowing only one hit while striking out six and walking two. Tommy Krohn pitched two similarly very good shutout innings, allowing only one hit while striking out two and walking one.

Logan Smith, Tristan Blake, and Easton Nash also played for Logan County Animal Clinic.

In the loss, H&H Sheet Metal players Brock Cleary got a double and Jagger Hales had a hit for a single, but neither could make it around the bases.

Other H&H players seeing action were, Caleb Bell, Eli Anderson, Jesus Zamarripa, and Zach Hopkins. In this game, Austin Rayno and Jackson Stewart played and filled in the roster for H & H.
