The Russellville Panthers played host to the Todd County Central Rebels on Friday night for the 2015 homecoming contest. The Panthers ran away with the game late and won 64-28. The win builds the RHS Football Club’s 2015 record to 5-0.
The Panthers will host the Class 2A Murray Tigers on September 25. Russellville will open Class 1A District 1 play the following week at Rhea Stadium against Fulton County.
Friday’s win began in modest terms, with the Rebels able to answer the Panthers’ early scores and tie the contest. But by the end of the first half the Russellville lead was 35-21.
The Panthers scored first in the second half with a 29 yard TD pass from Jaylyn McMurry to Jordan Blick. With the point after the score was 42-21 less than two minutes into the second half.
The game was a “grand opening” type of return to the lineup for Johnny Drumgole. The junior rejoined the team last week after returning to Russellville, but it was this game in which Drumgole shined. In the game he rushed eight times, gaining 214 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
Additionally, MJ Jones and Joshua Bigbee rushed for over 100 yards each. McMurry did well at QB, going four for four for 67 yards, three TDs, and no interceptions; that’s a NFL passer rating of nearly 160.
On defense, the Panthers’ Mason Aguirre had an interception and Bigbee recovered and returned a fumble for a score.
The final score was 64-28.
With the loss, the Class 2A Rebels go to 1-4 for the season.
