Dr. Don Hershman released a Soybean Rust Spray Advisory for the western half of Kentucky (I-65 and west) this morning. If soybeans are at R4 (full pod) to R5 (beginning seed) then they are at risk of losing yield from soybean rust. Soybeans at R4 or R5 are also at risk to lose yield from another factor – freeze. Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer urges ginseng dealers and sellers to operate within the laws governing the sales of ginseng roots. “The ginseng trade can be both profitable and sustainable, but only if everyone follows the rules,” Commissioner Farmer said. “I encourage dealers to watch for roots that are not legal to sell. Logan County FFA enjoys a week at camp
On July 20, the Logan County FFA Chapter went to FFA Camp in Hardinsburg. There were a total of 38 members that went to camp this year. FFA camp gave the newly elected officers a chance to bond and get to know one another better. Every year, the new senior officers are in charge of a chapter hour where the whole chapter meets together and comes up with new ideas for the upcoming year. Logan County FFA members enjoy time at state convention
On June 8-11 the Logan County FFA took 16 members to Rupp Arena in Lexington for the State FFA Convention. The members that were competing won at the regional level and advanced to the state level. USDA announces new crop certification deadline
USDA has extended the acreage reporting dates for final crop reporting to August 14, 2009, for all other crops, except small grain and value loss crops. Producers are reminded that requirements must be met prior to receiving program benefits. The Logan County 4-H/FFA Steer Show was held July 14, 2009 with a full day of events and activities.
