The Logan County High School soccer teams held their Senior Night on Tuesday to recognize their seniors and face Warren East in front of their family and friends. Both teams were successful with the Lady Cougars winning 8-1 and the Cougars winning 6-2.

The Lady Cougars played first in a game that started off slow for LCHS but picked up in the second half. Emma Cartas scored three goals, Breanna Baptiste with one goal, senior Kelsey Markham with three goals, and senior Hayley Mayher with one goal.

“They didn’t play hard in the first half, but in the second half they picked it up and played hard. They were passing and having possession which has been our biggest struggle,” said head coach Daniel McCarley. “Once we got possession we got goals and I think we broke their spirit after we were 4-1.”

This year, the Lady Cougars will lose three seniors, Claire Hopkins, Kelsey Markham and Hayley Mayher.

“I’m very proud of the seniors. They have put in a lot of hard work over the years and I’m proud of them as people not only as players,” said McCarley. “I know they are going to do well in life and I’m very proud.”

The Cougars played last against Warren East and worked hard to earn their win. Senior Jacob Smith scored the first goal for the Cougars followed by D.J. Lee and Logan Johnson which ended the first half 3-1. The second half Johnson and Lee scored again and the sixth goal was scored by senior Tyler Vaughn in a penalty kick.

“We played fairly well tonight. We need to work on passing the ball and better communication. Those are the only things that are holding us back.” said head coach Eric Evans. “When we pass and communicate we score goals but it wasn’t enough.”

The Cougars are losing 10 seniors this year. Those include Dakota Bray, Diego Garcia, Devon Cross, Korey Jaynes, Aaron Foster, Taylor Rittenberry, Fredy Santiago, Jacob Smith, Tyler Vaughn and Jared Young.

“I really appreciate all the seniors and I’ve enjoyed coaching them,” said Evans. “We’ve got a young and inexperienced team behind them so I hate seeing them leave.”

The Lady Cougars will face Glasgow in an away game on Tuesday and the Cougars will face Franklin-Simpson at an away game on Tuesday.
