The Russellville Panthers faced the Allen County-Scottsville Patriots on Tuesday night. The Panthers fought hard and came back from behind the Patriots but could not pull through with a win and fell 61-56 to the Patriots.
The Panthers came out slow in the first quarter letting the Patriots score 22 points in the first quarter with leaving the Partiots open to hit five three-point shots. This left the Panthers down 12 points going into the second quarter. The Panthers came out and got into the game scoring 20 points to the Patriots 9 points leaving them trailing the Patriots by once point going into the half with a score of 30-31.
The Panthers would take the lead late in the third quarter and end with a one point lead of 44-43 at the end of the third. The Patriots would come back to out score the Panthers by six points to end the game with a five point loss of 56-61.
“We didn’t start the game with intensity and that is my fault, I need to make sure they are ready to play. We allowed their guard to hit open and they out-played us tonight and out-coached us,” said head coach Phil Todd. “We had too many turnovers but we also created 15 turnovers but not points. The defense did alright until the last of the game but we are going to go back and work hard.”
The Panthers will face the Warren East Raiders in a home game on Friday.
