The softball ‘Clash of the Cats’ was rained out twice, but the Lady Cougars and the Lady Panthers finally faced each other on Saturday at LCHS. The two teams battled, but the Lady Cougars would take the 10-0 win.

The Lady Cougars started the game off strong, not letting the Lady Panthers score a run and adding two runs in the first inning. The Lady Panthers were not able to score, but they were able to only let the Lady Cougars score two more runs in the second and third innings.

The fourth inning was big for the Lady Cougars. Shelby Milam was able to keep the Lady Panthers from getting good hits and so the Lady Cougars quickly got up to bat. Victoria Cates would bring in the first run of the inning. Rebecca Dezarn hit a double to drive in two more runs. Jonique Smith would drive in two more runs and another was scored on an error.

The Lady Cougars led 9-0 going into the fifth quarter. The Lady Panthers would not be able to make it on base and the Lady Cougars would drive in one last run to take the 10-0 win.

The Lady Cougars finished the game with ten hits and seven RBI’s. Pitcher Shelby Milam finished the game with no runs allowed, only two walks and two hits and seven strikeouts.

“They played exactly how I have expected them to play. They got several good hits and the pitching was better,” said Lady Cougar head coach Michael Crawford. “All of the players did good today. The outfield had a lot of good catches. I’m happy we won the game.”
