The Logan County Lady Cougars held their last home game on Tuesday night against the South Warren Lady Spartans. The Lady Cougars won 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-17) in three intense games bringing their season record to 26-7 heading into district next week.
The Lady Cougars took control of all three games early and maintained steady leads throughout the game. The Lady Spartans tried to keep the game close, but the Lady Cougars pushed passed them every time and played hard to win all three games.
The Lady Cougars ended the game with 35 kills with Chanler Steenbergen leading with 14. They had seven solo blocks with Steenbergen leading with four and Megan Griggs following with three. The team also had a total of 67 digs, which was lead by Rachyl Miller with 18 and Victoria Cates with 17.
“I think the girls played pretty good. I think we confused the other team because we have so many hitters they weren’t sure who was going to. Chanler Steenbergen really stepped up tonight. We got to play our seniors and they really stepped it up,” said head coach Steve Lyne. “We are really excited about district next week. We’re excited to hopefully get 10 district wins in a row.”
The team also recognized four seniors that were leaving the team. These included Breanna Whittaker, Brittany Harper, Megan Griggs and Rebecca Dezarn.
“All of the seniors stepped it up this year. I hate to see them go,” said Lyne. “You get attached to them and they are like your own.”
“We’ve had a great year. All the girls have been working hard and had a good attitude. They keep you going and pick you up when you’re down. It’s been a great year,” said senior Megan Griggs.
“It’s been a blast. I love all the girls and I couldn’t have asked for a better season. It is upsetting that I’m no longer a Lady Cougar,” said senior Breanna Whittaker.
“All the girls play well together and got a long all year. We’re ready for district and I believe were going to play hard and push ourselves and come out with a win,” said senior Brittany Harper.
“It’s been amazing. I wouldn’t want a difference group of girls to play with. I have mixed emotions about being a senior. I’m nervous and excited and sad, but its been really good,” said senior Rebecca Dezarn.
The Lady Cougars will compete in the district tournament held at Todd County High School next Thursday, Oct. 11.
