The Logan County Lady Cougar basketball team is preparing for their upcoming season this year. The team is very young this year after losing six seniors last year, but the team is determined to make it a great year.
Last year, the Lady Cougars ended the season 11-15, but the girls have high hopes of changing that this year.
Team captain, Megan Lindsey, has been on the Lady Cougar basketball for three years and is excited for the upcoming season.
“I think we’re going to be really good, better than people expect us to be,” said Lindsey. “We have a closer team this year and we’re working together. We have a young team but we all have experience and play well together.”
Another team captain, Maegann Hardison, is anticipating the new season with the younger players.
“I think we’re going to do good this year. We have a lot of young but good players,” said Hardison. “We all like each other and get along. This year we have better players, last year it was pretty uneven, but we have several good players all around.”
Head coach Scot MacAllister believes that this young team has very good potential to do good this year.
“We could be really good. I’m loving the effort and the style of play they are incorporating. It’s going to depend on the buy in we get from the younger girls. They are having to adjust from the junior high pace to the varsity pace. It’s different and its frustrating for them at times,” said MacAllister.
MacAllister says that the team is young but that this year there is more skill and the girls have spend a lot more time in the gym. MacAllister says the captains are going a great job at making sure the girls know what is expected of them and holding each other accountable.
“They are going to be exciting to watch this year. We’re going up and down the floor as fast as possible and having as much possession as we can get. These girls have worked their butts off to play the style they are playing now and I’ve seen a lot of effort, it just comes down to how hard are you going to play,” said MacAllister.
The Lady Cougars kick off their season Tuesday, November 27, at a home game against against the Warren Central Lady Dragons.
