The artwork of Roberta McClean (Miss Robbie) will be featured at the Artisan’s at the 1817 Saddle Factory on East Fourth and Breathitt streets through the end of the month.
McClean was a well-known artist from Russellville, New York and Louisville. She died in 1975.
Many people in Russellville and Logan County own much of her artwork.
This exhibit will include a wide array of her work beginning with early landscapes, Victorian homes and buildings, many of which are no longer standing.
The paintings are on loan from the Russellville Historical Museum.
The Artisan’s shop will be open Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. through May 31.
No admission will be charged, but the Saddle Factory would appreciate any donations.
Roberta McClean was born in Russellville on Oct. 22, 1882. She graduated from Logan Female College in Russellville in 1901.
Her parents, Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Fisk McClean, allowed her to study art at the New York School of Art and the Art Students League.
She lived and worked in Louisville after coming back to Kentucky. She set up a studio at Fourth and Jefferson and taught art for six years for the the Kentucky Home School.
She was well known for painting family heralds after studying them at the Louisville Public Library.
She returned to Russellville and set up a studio in an historic house that had been in the Breathitt and Morehead families. It was located on Summer Street between Fourth and Fifth streets.
McClean painted many Russellville homes and many of Logan County’s oldest families still have heralds which she painted.
