Tuesday night Logan County High School volleyball team invited its rivals, the Russellville Lady Panthers, into its gym for the first “Clash of the Cats” game of the season.
The Lady Cougars left the court with a 2-0 win (25-10, 25-10.)
The two teams entered the court ready to win but the Lady Panthers couldn’t keep with the Lady Cougars. There was a lack of intensity in the games and the players. The Lady Panthers trailed behind the Lady Cougars in the two matches but could never close the gap in points.
“We were dead. There was no energy and no communication. They weren’t moving like they should be,” said Russellville head coach Terricka Quarles. “They didn’t play well tonight.”
Quarles said the team was going to work on their communication and on the fundamentals as they prepare for their next game.
“We just need to learn to stay consistent,” said Quarles.
The Lady Cougars ended the game with 18 kills overall, with Chanler Steengergen leading with five kills. They also finished with 16 digs with Madison Abbott and Victoria Cates with five each. The Lady Cougars now have an impressive record of 9-1 in their district and hope to continue their success during the season.
“I feel like we stayed focused on our goal and handled the game good,” said Logan County head coach Steve Lyne. “We are doing a lot of conditioning to prepare for our main goal at the end of the season and we are taking it one day at a time. We practiced before this game just to build up their endurance for the game.”
The Lady Cougars will face the Bowling Green Purples on Tuesday at a home game and the Lady Panthers will travel to Monroe County on September 6.
