The Russellville High School Marching Panthers hosted its 34th Annual Show of Bands at historic Rhea Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 15th.

This stadium was built in 1939 by WPA (Works Progress Administration) and has been the home of the Marching Panthers since that time.

“We had 11 bands and there was probably 2,000 people there,” said Russellville band director Brian Brown. “It was a pretty packed stadium.”

The 11 bands performing included Caverna High School, LaRue County High School, Green County High School, Todd County High School, Butler County High School, Franklin-Simpson High School, Allen County-Scottsville High School, Logan County High School, Macon County High School, Greenwood High School and Bullitt East High School, with Russellville High School performing in Exhibition.

Logan County finished second in Class 4A and was given the award for best percussion in its class.

The grand champion was Green County and the reserve grand champion was Todd County Central.

Russellville closed out the show with a great exhibition performance.

“We had performed earlier that day in Butler County,” brown said. “Sometimes when you play twice in one day like that, you’re worried about the kids being tired, but our group had a lot of energy and stepped it up. The audience was really into it and out band fed off that. It was the best performance of the year by far for us.”

The Show of Bands is usually the biggest fund raiser of the year for the RHS band and this year was no exception.

“I just want to give a big thanks for the community for showing up and band boosters for all their hard work,” Brown said. “There’s a lot of logistics that go into making something like this work and our boosters did a great job.”
