The Logan County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting Tuesday, October 9, 2012 to announce the completion of the East Logan Water District’s new twelve inch, ductile iron, water line to the South Union area.
Construction of the new water line was recently completed and is now in service. This new water line gives east Logan Water District the ability to deliver three plus million gallons of treated water per day to the South Union area.
The new water line is a partnership between East Logan Water District and the Logan-Todd Regional Water Commission. East Logan provided $650,000 and Logan-Todd provided one million from a state grant for expansion of the system. East Logan Water District owns the line from just east of Auburn to a point four tenths of a mile from the Warren County line on US 68.
East Logan Water District is headquartered in Auburn and operated under contract by Hanks Construction Company. They now have the ability to serve new industry that may locate in Tri-County Industrial Park at the Logan-Simpson-Warren county lines.
This expansion was the goal of Bill Stokes, Carroll Browning and Lloyd Houchens chairman and board members of the East Logan Water District. Their partnership with the Logan-Todd Regional Water Commission assures all of east Logan County and the tri-county area near South Union of ample water supplies for years to come.
Logan-Todd Regional Water Commission draws raw water from the Cumberland River in Clarksville, Tennessee and treats it in a modern, state of the art treatment plant in Guthrie, Kentucky with a membrane treatment process. They provide pure, high-quality water to Todd and Logan counties and the cities located within, as well as Oak Grove and Trenton.
Horsley Construction from Elizabethtown was the contractor on the job. Design and engineering was provided by McGhee Engineering in Guthrie.
