The annual Clash of the Cats game against the across town rivals the Logan County Cougars and the Russellville Panthers was Friday night. The Panthers came out with a big win of 35-7 heading into thire playoff game next week.
The Panthers started the game early with a five yard touchdown pass from Barrett Croslin to Zach Hines at the ten minute mark. Damarcus Hampton would score again in the first quarter with a 21 yard touchdown rush and Hines would complete a pass to get the two point conversion with the Panthers in the lead of 14-0 after the first quarter.
Demarcus Hampton would score again in the second quarter with a 49 yard touchdown rush and a two point conversion to put the Panthers up 22-0 at the half.
The Panthers came out from halftime and made another touchdown early in the third quarter with a 28 yard rush by Dequan Beard. But Logan County running back Gage Hales would make a huge run for the Cougars putting them yards away from end-zone. Hales would score for the Cougars in the third quarter with a three yard rush to put the Cougars on the scoreboard 29-7.
Demarcus Hampton would score the final touchdown for the Panthers in the fourth quarter with a 13 yard rush to end the game 35-7 against the Logan County Cougars.
The Panthers would end the game with a total of 330 offensive yards. Demarcus Hampton would have the best game of his career with 18 carries, 155 yards rushing and three touchdowns for the Panthers. Dequan Beard would end the game with 76 yards rushing and Zach Hines with 58 yards rushing.
The Cougars ended the game with a total of 54 offensive yards. Gage Hales would lead the Cougars in rushing yards with a total of 49 and Brennan Rostampour with 25. Taylor Blakemore would have 13 yards receiving for the Cougars.
“We had a sloppy night. Russellville game out and wanted to win and did a good job. Hats off to coach Myers and the rest of the coaches on their win, they put their team in the position to win and Russellville was the better football team,” said Logan County head coach Dain Gregory.
The Cougars also recognized their nine seniors on Friday night. These include Aaron Baldwin, Dylan Givens, Gage Hales, Jared Hall, Jerry Hendrix, Chris Neal, Justin Rone, Tyler Wood and Nick Offutt.
“We have a good group of seniors. They always play hard and are good leaders for the team. They keep the team together and I have nothing but good things to say about them,” said Gregory.
Both teams will head into their playoff games on Friday. The Logan County Cougars have an away game against Graves County and the Russellville Panthers will host their home playoff game against Bethlehem on Friday.
