The Logan County High School volleyball team experienced its best match of the season so far on Tuesday night.
The Lady Cougars faced their arch-rivals, the Greenwood Lady Gator,s in an intense fight for the win. The Lady Cougars won the match 3-0 (28-26, 29-27, 25-21) in three close games against the Lady Gators.
In the first game, the Lady Cougars were falling behind the Lady Gators for the majority of the game. But in the end, they Lady Cougars came back and tied the game 24-24. The Lady Cougars played smart and ended up with the win of 28-26. From then on, the Lady Cougars gained confidence and took the lead in the games to win overall.
The Lady Cougars had 31 kills overall and was lead by Chanler Steenbergen with eight kills. Megan Griggs had 14 solo blocks during the game. The Lady Cougars had 56 overall digs with Victoria Cates leading with 15.
“That was the best defense I’ve seen them play all year. That’s what we’ve been working on and I saw improvement tonight,” said head coach Steve Lyne. “We’re going to keep pressing toward our goal and working on our serving. The girls stepped it up tonight and played good all night.”
The Lady Cougars will compete in the Quad State Invitational this weekend at Lone Oak High School.
