The new minor league basketball team, the Bowling Green Hornets, made their debut on Friday night at Russellville High School. About 400 fans showed up to watch the Hornets face the Air Strikers from Dayton, Ohio. The Hornets had a very successful night, as they took the 20 point victory of 118-98 over the Air Strikers.
The Hornets had a rough start in the first quarter, as the Air Strikers took the lead early in the game. But the Hornets were able to tie up the game with seconds to go, and ended the first quarter up 25-23. The Air Strikers and the Hornets would battle throughout the second quarter, but the Hornets would come out on top. The Hornets would lead 47-42 at the half.
The Air Strikers started to fade in the third quarter, while the Hornets would take off. The Hornets would gain a 13 point lead by the end of the third quarter.
The Hornets would continue to dominate the Air Strikers, lengthening their gap to 20 points. The Hornets would end the game with a solid win of 118-98.
Vic Moses led the Hornets on Friday night with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Two players from Western Kentucky University made a big impact on the team. Kahil McDonald finished the night with 22 points and Jamal Crook finished with 18 points for the Hornets.
The Hornets will play at RHS on Friday and face the St. Louis Hawks at 7 p.m.
