The Russellville Lady Panthers are working hard to prepare for the upcoming season. The Lady Panthers made it to region last year and ended their season 13-17. The Lady Panthers lost several seniors last year and are working with the younger players to build their team up for this year.
“Right now we are still learning. We have some really young players but we are playing hard and I think we’re going to be a really good team,” said senior Nathasha Haskins. “Last year we had big girls but we don’t have much height this year.”
Haskins says she excited for their schedule because they should have some good match ups in the year.
Amber Sydnor is another senior for the Lady Panthers and has been playing for the Lady Panthers since she was in the seventh grade.
“I’m excited. We have young players but they are experienced. I feel pressure being a senior being in that role. I like to keep positive,” said Sydnor. “We have good team chemistry and we hang out on and off the court. I wish us the best this years and I’m hoping we make it to state this year.”
Head coach Debra Adler is working on preparing the girls but doesn’t feel they are as far along as she hoped.
“I feel we’re not as far as we’ve been in the past. I only have four girls returning that have varsity experience. We have young girls that have to step into big roles and they are responding well,” said Adler. “The girls are dedicated and we are getting better each day. I can see progress but its lower than what I’m used to. As long as we work hard we’re going to be alright.”
The Lady Panther season will begin next Tuesday, November 27, at Butler County.
