Community Action of Southern Kentucky is the new coalition coordinator for the Barren River Asset Building Coalition’s (BRABC) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, which provides free tax preparation.

Thousands of people take advantage of this program and our need for volunteers is growing.

We have volunteer positions consisting of tax preparer, site greeter and ambassador in Allen, Barren, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Monroe and Warren counties. If you seek to help low-moderate income families in meeting their tax reporting requirements for the IRS, please contact us!

Tax preparers are responsible for preparing basic income taxes. You work with taxpayers to ensure that they file a complete and accurate tax return. You will receive instruction on interviewing and using preparation software.

Site greeters welcome customers as they come in, give them the correct forms to fill out, and help people complete those forms when needed. Other duties may include answering phone calls while the Tax Preparer is busy with a customer.

Ambassadors help distribute information before and during tax season by handing out flyers and door hangers to get the word out. Ambassadors have a direct impact on how many people find out about our services.

Logan County Good Samaritan operates the VITA site in Logan County as a partner to BRABC. This is our fifth year to do so. We are in need of greeters for Fridays and/or Saturdays from mid January through mid April. We would also love to add one or two more tax preparers to our site. Please contact Denise McDonald to volunteer at dmcdonald.lcgs@epbnet.com or 270-725-9002.
