Russellville Middle School eighth grade students Madison Rose and Taylor Douglas will advance to the Student Technology Leadership Program state competition at Rupp Arena in Lexington in March after presenting a program about their work with live-streaming Russellville High School football games at the STLP Western Kentucky University Showcase on Dec. 6.
Madison’s mother, Lisa Rose, who sponsors the Russellville Middle School STLP with fellow RMS teacher Kaylee Crowder, said the entire STLP team did well in the competition at WKU. One group of students built a robot to act as a mascot for the recycling project they presented. All members not making it to the state level only missed advancing by five points.
“This was our first year” to have an STLP, Rose said, “so, they really did well.”
According to the Kentucky Department of Education website, “The Mission of the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) is to advance individual capabilities; to motivate all students; and to create leadership opportunities through the use of technology.”
