Dear Editor:

“When bad men combine, good men must organize.” Or if you prefer, “For evil men to accomplish their purpose it is only necessary that good men should do nothing.” Author unknown.

When my daughter was in fifth grade at Adairville School, the Gideons came to school and gave out Bibles to children who wanted one. She still has that Bible. There were no questions regarding the motive of the Gideons. It was apparent. If the word of God is taught to children early in their lives, perhaps it would save them from telling lies to their parents, doing good for those less fortunate or even save them from a life of crime. The Gideons are concerned about our life here and our eternal life.

Some say that children are not mature enough to make a decision regarding accepting Christ as their savior, while the Bible plainly states the He wants all people to come as little children. Funny isn’t it? That Jesus knew children could discern between good and evil and adults are worries that giving out a Bible could be detrimental to their thinking.

It’s extremely hard for me to understand why people are so afraid of the bible. it always makes me wonder if the individual(s) are perhaps living a life they are not really proud of and that is why it’s so easy to be offended. If a person really believes that the Bible isn’t true or has no power, then why does he/she care whether a Bible is passed out? If there truly is no power to it, why make such a fuss when the Gideons come to school? Why not just be quiet and let it pass, as it has for years?

I am a Christian, as is my family and our ancestors before us. How do I know? There are records in the family Bibles. How do I know? Because the words in the Bible aren’t just words. They are a living invitation to anyone who is willing to read it and hopefully realize that what is written is to help them in this life and the next one.

Whoever is reading this, you don’t have to agree with me. I don’t have a problem with you disagreeing with me. Facts are facts - in the end everyone is going to bow to the one and only living potentate, Jesus. It reminds me of the old Fram filter commercial. You can pay now or you can pay later. Personally, I don’t want to be responsible for being one of the quiet good men. I’m speaking out for truth. You can keep taking God out of the school system. But when a tragedy occurs, who are you going to call on?
