Members of the Russellville High School class of 1957 had its dream with a dinner meeting at the Colonial Inn Restaurant in Russellville on Oct. 12. The Colonial Inn at East End and the Tastee Treat Drive Inn on the West side of town were popular gathering places in the 1950s.

High School classes in the 1950s have been referred to as the prelude to the hit TV program ” Happy Days.” Many of our memories reflected on these light hearted days.

This 1956-57 class was made popular not only by the Statler Brothers hit song “The Class of ‘57 had its Dreams”, but this was the year that the Knob City School and the Public Schools in Logan County integrated.

This RHS High School class had the four black students to graduate: George Allison, James Buckner, Delmer McCarley, all deceased, and Dorothy Tillet Jordan who now lives in Fayetteville, N.C.

Of the 36 member class, seven currently live in Logan County, five live in other Kentucky Counties, five in Tennessee, three in North Carolina, one each in Alaska, California, Michigan, Colorado and Ohio. Thirteen of the class members have deceased.

The class is planning to meet again next year for dinner at the Colonial Inn on the Friday evening before the Tobacco and Heritage Festival Parade day.
