Panthers stay perfect in district

The Russellville Panthers faced their district rivals, the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats, on Tuesday during their last home game of the season. The Panthers played a close game and came out with a win of 67-59. This win put the Panthers in the number one seed in the district.

The Wildcats started the game off with a short lead, leaving the Panthers battling to take over. The Panthers fell behind 11-12 going into the second quarter of the game. The Panthers kept pushing, but so did the Wildcats, which resulted the Panthers falling behind 30-32 going into the second half of the game.

The Panthers were able to fight through the Wildcat defense and take the lead at the end of the third quarter. The Wildcats wouldn’t give up and fight to gain their lead back, but the Panthers would finish the third quarter with a 45-42 lead.

With five minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats would comeback to take the lead, but the Panthers kept pushing on. Minutes passed and the Panthers were able to gain a four point lead over the Wildcats with just seconds on the clock. The Panther defense was able to shut the Wildcats out, and finish the game out with a 67-59 win.

Barrett Croslin was the points leader for the Panthers, with 24 points. 15 of those points were from three point baskets. Jordan Kennedy finished strong with 21 points and Darrin Quarles finished with eight points.

The Panthers will face the Logan County Cougars tonight at the Clash of the Cats game at LCHS.
