The Logan County Fiscal Court approved an interlocal cooperation agreement, presented by Logan County Sheriff Wallace Whittaker on Tuesday, March 12. The agreement allows the Kentucky 100 Containment Team to work together in the case of a critical situation in several communities.

The Kentucky 100 Containment Team consists of officers from Logan County, Simpson County, Allen County and the City of Franklin. The purpose of the team is to combat and react to responses for additional manpower when needed by the requesting agency in critical situations.

Whittaker likened the group’s need to incidents like the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

“You hate to have to use a team like this, but if you do, you’re glad you have them trained and ready to go,” said Whittaker.

The containment team was organized last year and have been training for possible emergency situations for some time now. If there is ever a situation where someone is being held hostage or there is a mass emergency that requires several agencies to pull together, this will be when the group will come into play.

Whittaker said by entering into the interlocal agreement, it allows the group to cross over into other jurisdictions to help.

The agreement will now have to be sent to KACo, the county’s insurance provider, as well as the Attorney General’s Office for approval.

Whittaker said the group at this time is not costing the county anything. Funding will be provided by each agency member, primarily for their member operator or as each principle deems necessary to accomplish the mission. Investigations shall be carried out by duly sworn and certified officers assigned to the principle’s area of activation of the team.
