On Friday, Jan. 4 at approximately 5 a.m., the Russellville City Fire Department was called to a house fire at 840 Armstrong Street in Russellville.
“When fire units arrived we found a two story wood frame house with heavy fire involvement from the rear and side of the house,” said fire chief Billy Poole.
Fire crews attempted entry to search for the family dog that was still inside, but was driven back because of the amount of fire. Chief Poole said a defensive fire attack was made to knock down most of the fire.
“A few minutes later one crew went to work on the inside of the house with an attack line while another fire crew worked off of the ladder truck attempting to put out the fire that had made its way upstairs,” said Poole.
After another search the family dog was located in the upstairs bedroom.
“This was an emotional moment for most of us because we all have a family pet who has become part of the family, it would be like losing a family member,” said Poole.
The city’s fire department was on scene for three hours and was assisted by the Russellville Police Department, Logan County EMS and the Fire Chaplains.
