Hello to my many friends in Logan County. Unfortunately, due to my recent stroke and follow up illnesses I am going to have to post phone my open house till later in March. I am so sorry to have to do this but health held me back this year. Hopefully I will be a new man by March. I have lost 110 lbs and hope more will be off by then. My goal is 150 lbs. That will put me back to my college football weight. I have had three different people to ask me if I was related to Dick Dickerson. When I tell them I am he they seem confused and think I am a younger family member. I will admit that I have not looked this way in 50 years. Shirt sizes and pants sizes have come down drastically. I am not big like I was.
The good news is I am in a great remission with my rare type leukemia. My famous doctor at M.D. Anderson Hospital tells me I am one of two that has gone into a like remission, with this type leukemia and he hopes it will stay this way for a long while. He then plans on a new surgery he has developed. So far the doctor is batting a big success with the six patients he has preformed this new surgery on.
Peach Blossom is decorated so beautiful this holiday season. I did have two events. One for the correspondents of this paper and one for family. I love company and wish I could have events more frequently. I have shut down five large rooms with 12 foot ceilings for the cold winter. It saves me $600 plus a month on the heat bill.
This will be the first time in 40 years that I will not be attending the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, DC. I marched in the parades for six of the Presidents and attended the balls held for each of the events. It is probably just as well because my tuxedo will no longer fit. Still, I will probably watch most of the events on TV. I use to like all the free food but those days are now over. I have lost my appetite.
The correspondents for this paper came back again for a good Christmas Party. We had lots of good food, fun being together and some sweet and thoughtful gifts. I hated it when the party was over. It was nice having the mystery writer from up at the lake again. I feel honored to know who she is and to be honored by her presence.
The Logan County Tourism Commission recently hosted a Christmas meal for all the folk who came to the old Court House. It was an outstanding event. It is so nice to serve on a county commission that works so well together and works so hard for the county. Commission Chair, Janie Gregory, does a good job keeping us all on track and the commission moving.
Went over to Auburn last week and had another great lunch at the Pool Hall Restaurant. It is some good home cooking to be had at that restaurant. The prices are very fare as well.
Time to go. Good night sweet ladies of Logan County and good night Mrs. Calabash where ever you are.
