Hello Logan County! I am very glad to be back. Wish I felt a little better but my body seems to be falling apart. The doctors at Vanderbilt Hospital told me a year ago that I had developed a very rare type of leukemia that affects less than one percent of the male population in America. In addition there are two types of this leukemia and I came down with the worst of the two. Last July, I went out to Houston, Texas and the number one hospital in the world for my illness – M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. While at M.D. Anderson it was discovered I was in a wonderful remission. In fact my Vanderbilt doctors told me a couple of months ago that I was in a fantastic remission of one in 500,000 the best they had ever seen.
Still something is very wrong. I have become increasingly weak, I stagger when I walk, my voice has become weak and I am having great difficulty getting up out of a chair. It appears I may be returning to Vanderbilt for a stay or to M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas. At any rate I have had a good ride writing for the paper for the past decade. I wish I could write for the paper for another 10 years.
Having loved history and government since I was a child and having taught both in secondary school and college I always love the presidential election season. It is no doubt that a lot of misinformation goes on from both major political parties. You might call it tall tails telling or simply lying. I do not like that but it seems it has been the norm in every presidential election since the first. The Republican Party convention this week has had its’ share of tall telling. I am sure next weeks’ Democratic Party Convention will have the same.
I have many Republican and Democratic friends.. My dad was a Republican and my mom a yellow dog Democrat! I guess you would call me a moderate Democrat although I have voted independent a few times. I wish this paper was a little more progressive. In particular have a few more progressive writers.
The county fair in underway. I have been out to the fairgrounds and volunteered to help the Logan County Tourism Committee put on three events. Friday and Saturday are the last two days. Try to come out and enjoy the free admission and the entertainment.
Due to my rapidly declining health this may be my last article for a while. I love Logan County and its’ people. My best to you all.
