Greetings from our little community, where there used to be 2 grocery stores, a cream station, blacksmith shop and a post office. My, my how times have changed. All these things are gone, but we still have a church. Elk Lick Baptist. Not as active as it used to be, but the doors are still open, and we wish you would come. We’d love to have you.
A few days very humid and just plain ole hot this week.
Got a most enjoyable call this week from Gracie Sweeney from Greenville. Always appreciate her calls. She, like the rest of us, is not as active as she once used to be.
Well, you know the phone do ring. I got one this week and this voice says, “I need to speak to Hazel Fleming.” Speaking I say. “Are you allergic to peanuts?” No. Thank you, have a good rest of the afternoon, I say. End of conversation. What will they think of next?
Thursday picking me us was Judy Jernigan. We met Martine Brown and Kathryn Stuart at Colonial Inn to celebrate Kathryn’s birthday. Her birthday is actually a few days later on the 3rd. We had a good time visiting, as well as eating.
Just heard a couple of days ago that Joan Henderson had fallen and was in Creekwood. Don’t know when this happened, but hope she is soon feeling much better.
All I know this time is that Mary Emma Harris Anderson is deceased, and at this time I do not know any arrangements. She was born and raised in Spa, up on the hill where Curtis and Brenda Coursey live now. She was the daughter of the late John and Mae Harris. Our sympathy to the remaining family.
Boy did I have a surprise one morning. I got to go to church for the first time in 5 weeks. My Sunday school class had a big surprise for me. They had a bunch of gifts, but I can only open one a day, so I’ve already opened one and it was from Joyce Chapman. When they were bringing them in I kept thinking, wonder why they didn’t call me so I could have brought one too? I was thinking the gifts were for someone else. So for once I was speechless. I sure appreciate their caring for me. You sure made my day. Whew, I’m so excited. Many thanks. Love you gals.
See ya next time and keep the faith.
