There are no words to explain how happy I am at this point in my life. This time last year I was invited to a gathering to watch the play offs of UK basketball and to tell you the truth, I had more fun watching the people than I did in the game. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted UK to win but it is a different story this year.
You see my UK Buddy told me I had to have a shirt if I was going to watch the game. So I got a hoodie to go with it. The next thing I got a flag for my house. Then when I went to Wayne’s Place all we talked about was my favorite football team and their scores and as soon as that was over it was THE BIG BLUE every other breath. All my Buddies wouldn’t let me rest until I was keeping scores and even calling the players by name.
As you know they got off to a bad start and then we left and went down south to Never Never land where nobody even heard of UK. They had their own teams to talk about of course they were from way up north.
By the time the season was in full swing, I knew how to find the ESPN station down south. I knew when they played and I even downloaded a UK app for my iPhone. It told me who they were playing and the score minute by minute. Before I knew it I was checking scores instead of playing cards. One lady said, what happened to all that knitting you learned last year? The Hubby said, what knitting? Then all my friends got interested and would ask me how the Big Blue was doing.
When it was just about time for us to come home the tournament started. Doctor Hubby decided I had caught the BLUE FEVER. That’s when you sit in your favorite chair with your eyes glued to the TV set and you know where the ball is every minute. You know when the referee makes a mistake and when you see the coach being thrown out of the game. Thank goodness, he makes me nervous. I am glad it happened before the tournament. If you want my opinion they played better without him. But what do I know.
So now it’s tournament time. My friends said how are you going to keep up with your team? I told them I believe in miracles so I would figure out a way.
When we got down to the Alabama game, I nearly came unglued. The Hubby said if you don’t stop screaming the people in the next condo will think I am beating you. It’s really hard to cheer for your team with your MOUTH SHUT. That’s when I told the Hubby he was a Party Pooper. That’s when he QUIETLY told me I was bursting his ear drums. And I also had to take my hearing aids out and now I can barely hear the game.
We finally packed up and started back to the Daughters house. I told the Hubby we had to get half way and find a place that had the Big Blue so I could watch the Georgia game. When we checked in I made absolutely sure that they had ESPN and I found out that night it’s fun to jump up and down on the bed when you are cheering for your team. This did not go over so well with the Hubby. He told me my blood pressure was probably two thousand degrees. I really was excited especially when they won.
The next morning I was up early rushing around and the Hubby reminded me he was on a pleasure trip. Once again I had to remind him we had to go so we wouldn’t miss the final game.
Of course it was Sunday and the Daughter was going to church and I called her and asked her to say a prayer for the Big Blue because they were playing that mean Texas A&M team. Her question was WHO IS THAT? My reply was REALLY where have you been this last month? She answered “not with you that’s for sure”. I don’t think she is too caught up in basketball.
You know the end of this story, I got here about ten minutes into the game and once again was beside myself, especially when they went into overtime. I even had a friend that text me WHAT IS THE SCORE? Of course he said I saved his life when I told him they won. Obviously he was caught up in something where they did not have TV. Poor thing…..missed all the excitement.
Now that my nerves are back to normal my Buddy that got me into this situation told me HOLD ON cause it’s not over yet. You see the NCAA Tournament is coming up! You’ll never guess who was excited to hear this news. The Hubby said he was going to stay at the Daughters house until I got over this sickness. Watch out people, you might catch the BLUE FEVER just reading this newspaper column. You better take a chill pill.
Till next time, I am certainly enjoying every moment of this basketball season. Hope you are.Bye now.
