You have heard the old saying “There’s no place like home for the holidays”. Well, that is so true. We are at the Daughters house and this morning everyone is fast asleep! So I thought I would take a minute and let you know all about what Christmas is really like. You see I bet I have told everyone I me that “I am really loving Christmas this year”! If you are not then it’s not too late to think LIGHTS ad HO HO HO. And best of all enjoy being alive.
I think I mentioned that we rotate each year between families to have the family Christmas party. It was our year and man did we have a blast! We had RIBS AND BAR-B-Q ! Poor old turkey and country ham was left completely off the menu.
In years past we had not had such a good turnout but this year, everyone was here! After a full day of cooking everybody’s favorite and pulling out every dish we had on the shelf; putting up tables so everyone could sit down, I decided it was time for me to LAY DOWN. Just as soon as my head hit the pillow I heard our bell go off. You see when anyone comes over the bridge, the bell rings in the house. So back into action again. Everyone ate and ate and then ate dessert! My Brother in law was beaming, he said you cooked Mothers butter beans and I reminded him that I also made her Spanish rice and pecan pie. Guess what I did not get “one bite” of the rice but there was pie left because everyone was full of ribs. My nephew wanted the recipe for the pecan pie. I told him I would e-mail it to him. And if you would like to try it, here is my gift to you.
First you beat 3 eggs WITH A FORK, then add ½ cup of sugar, beat again. Add 1 cup of Karo syrup and beat again. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1 cup of pecans. Pour in a pie shell and bake for one hour or until the DOES NOT SHAKE IN THE MIDDLE! There you have it. It freezes well after baking and your friends will love it as a Christmas gift. Also if you can’t eat nuts, substitute coconut.
We had “funny Christmas exchange” and I got the best gift of all. I have just the person I plan on giving it to at the lake. We had bath scrub picked up by men, women got flashlights and of course there were some great gifts that were swapped by all. Hugs and Kiss were passed out as everyone left and of course after we discussed who was going to have it next year.
Then it was the “day after”…..the Daughter had scheduled a minor surgery that morning and her Man Friend came by and took over that task. So after the extra dishes were put away and the chairs put back in place, it was time for me to sit and relive all the memories of years past.
On a different note, I received sad news about my favorite white ducks. You remember they were staying with a couple near Shady Cliff. It seems Mother Nature needed them to feed other creatures in her kingdom but there is one left and she is safe hiding under the new couples deck. I have made a great decision. I am going to Greenville in the spring when they have their sale the first Monday of each month and locate some more white ducks and put them in the lake again. I don’t know who put them there before but I am going to be sure they are back again for all to enjoy.
It’s time for everyone to think about “New Year’s Resolutions” You know the resolutions you break the day after the New Year’s party is over! Once again, I am going to try and be a happier, better person. Love my fellow man and truly enjoy every moment I spend with my friends, especially those at Wayne’s Place. So next year resolve to pay a visit to Wayne’s Place, not only will you be greeted with a smile but you will love the food and fellowship. Tell them that Old TG sent you.
