Hello again my many friends. I have been feeling very good the past month and have been out day and night selling tickets to the Red River Fish & Game Club’s 50th Annual Fish Fry. I do not think I have ever talked to so many good folks. So far I have sold 110 of the 170 tickets that have been purchased. 22 days and only 130 tickets to go. The second oldest continuous event in Logan County the big fish fry will be Saturday evening September 26 beginning at 5 pm. There will be music, door prizes, an auction, drawing for over $1,000 in cash prizes and much more. We need to see you there. Politicians, here is your chance. Voters from all over the county will be there. By the way the fish is always great. Cooked just right and actually to perfection. For tickets you can call me in Russellville on my cell phone which is 615-389-5495.

I was remembering and talking about the late Wayne Brown on Wednesday evening. Wayne was a wonderful person who died this past year of heart trouble. Wayne was mentally challenged and a town fixture in Adairville. He could be found daily on or near the town square. He was beloved by hundreds of people. To know Wayne was to love him. He joined every organization and bought a ticket to every event. He was always the first there and the last to leave. He also ate many meals at the local Adairville restaurants and he called every waitress his girl friend. Wayne did not always remember their names but he knew they were among his many girl friends. I once asked Wayne if he was ever going to get married. His replay was a classic. “Wayne not get married. Women cost too much!”

One of the classic moments was a few years back at a “Turkey Shoot” at the Fish & Game Club in Adairville. To help raise money for the club, chances were sold on a card which was drawn on a big target. Little squares were drawn on the target and individuals could buy a chance and write their name in a square. When all the squares had been filled in Wayne Brown was chosen as the neutral party who would shoot at the target. Where ever Wayne’s shot struck the target the person who’s name was there would win the pot. After lots of preparation Wayne fired and to every ones shock Wayne hit the bulls eye dead center. Wayne was so proud of his shot and would not acknowledge that the kick of the gun had bruised his chin.

NOTICE: The Wild Turkey Federation in Logan County has cancelled its’ annual JAKES Day which is usually held in September of each year. Hopefully JAKES Day will be back in 2016.

The best deal on mums in Logan County is now available. The gardens are on Hwy 431 South or the Nashville Hwy. You pass through Adairville going south and cross the south branch of the Red River. The first drive on your left leads to the mum gardens. There is no sign but you will see the hundreds of mums. The small size (which is large) is only $4 and the large size (which is giant) is only $7. I have already purchased and planted 20 mums and plan to go back for 20 more.

Someone recently asked if I had really been to 75 countries and I replied yes and probably more. Well, I counted the other night and it was a few more than what I had counted last time. To date, I have been to the following countries: 1952 Mexico with my parents, 1959 Canada, 1962 British Honduras and Guatemala, 1964 Iceland, Luxembourg, Belgium, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, France, Andorra, Spain, Portugal, Monaco, Italy, The Vatican, The Royal Order of Malta, San Marino, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Hungary, W. Germany, E. Germany (two countries at the time), Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands. 1965 Haiti and Dominican Republic. 1966 on a Fulbright Grant I was able to visit Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Greece and Yugoslavia. 1968 Bermuda for dog shows. 1972 South Africa, Lesotho, Somalia and Zanzibar. 1976 Nigeria, Rep of Congo, Tanzania, Ghana and Kenya where I had funded a school library. In the 80s I returned to 23 of the countries I had previously visited. In the late 80s visited Puerto Rica, U.S. Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands. In the 90s I visited Turkey, Kuwait, Iraq (visited and old class mate from Peabody/Vanderbilt), Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Oman. Went to the Bahamas on a cruise. Early 2000s Bulgaria, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, Lithuania and Estonia. Late 2010 Jamaica, Martinique, Grenada, Saint Kitts & Nevis. (I think that is close to 80 countries I have visited and I have not mentioned several Asian countries I have been too such as India, Hong Kong and several former Portuguese colonies.

I have been to England more than 20 times and many other countries multiple times; usually to judge a dog show or working. If my health holds out I would like to visit more Asian and South American countries. I guess I should add that if the old pocket book holds out as well.

Time to go. Smile and think of all the good things in your life. Good night sweet people and good night Mrs. Calabash where ever you are.
