The Russellville softball team played a close game against Todd County on Friday. The Lady Panthers faced one of their 13th district rivals, the Lady Rebels, but would make too many errors during the game. The Lady Panthers would fall 9-6 to the Lady Rebels.
The two teams would keep the score even against the Lady Rebels through the first inning of their game. But the Lady Rebels would be the first to take the lead after scoring one run in the second inning of the game. The Lady Panthers offense would struggle, and their defense would allow the Lady Rebels to score again in the third inning.
The Lady Rebels would score their third run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Lady Panthers would pick up their offense in the bottom of the fourth and score two runs. The Lady Panthers would trail 2-3 going into the fifth inning.
The Lady Panthers defense would work hard and prevent the Lady Rebels from scoring in the top of the fifth. The Lady Panthers would score four runs in the inning, put them in the lead with a score of 6-3. But the Lady Rebels were not done fighting.
The Lady Panthers would have several errors in the sixth inning, and the Lady Rebels would come back and score six runs in the sixth inning. The Lady Panthers would not be able to score anymore runs in the game and they would fall 6-9.
Cierra Collins, Taylor Gray, Tristen Gentry and Tiffany Gray would all end the game with one RBI each.
“Overall, we had too many errors to pull off the win. There are a number of things we still need to work on during practice,” said head coach Brandy Trimble. “We just have to keep hitting it hard day in and day out and work on being mentally tough during these ball games. We’re going to get there!”
The Lady Panthers will travel to Logan County High School tonight to face the Lady Cougars in the “Clash of the Cats” game. The game will begin around 5:30 p.m.
